When people think about a law career, their first thought is often of lawyers and judges.  We often see these professionals dramatically depicted in popular films and TV shows as they question witnesses, uncover evidence, and cast verdicts.  But you'd be mistaken if you thought the legal profession was limited to judges and attorneys.  Paralegals make up a significant sector of careers in the law field, assisting attorneys every step of the way.

Paralegals are legal assistants who provide support to lawyers.  Although they don't actually give legal advice or represent clients during trials, they play a huge role in legal proceedings. Paralegals investigate the facts of cases to be sure that all relevant information is considered. They identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles and other materials that are relevant to cases. They analyze and organize the information they find and write reports that attorneys use to decide how cases are handled.

Paralegal careers enjoy a wide range of employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Attorneys, corporations, insurance companies, banks, real estate companies, and government agencies need paralegals on their teams. The outlook for jobs as a paralegal is positive in the San Antonio region with a growth rate of about 32%.
