PepsiCo Foundation Uplift Scholarship

The Uplift Scholarship program offers support and services to help students complete their education and secure jobs in high-growth, high-demand fields. The Uplift Scholarship Program exemplifies the "students first" values of the Alamo Colleges. Its generous support for Uplift Scholars goes beyond funds for tuition and fees to include assistance with books, funds to help meet unplanned emergency needs when needed, and opportunities to engage with local PepsiCo employees.

About the PepsiCo Foundation Uplift Program

In March 2021, The PepsiCo Foundation launched this $40 million nationwide program to support incoming community college students and graduating students transitioning to four-year colleges. The program aims to address the historical barriers that often make it challenging for minority students to enroll, persist, and graduate from college.

The PepsiCo Foundation's investment seeks to create equitable access, especially for students who rely on community colleges for economic mobility. To ensure that these students not only get to college, but have the resources and support they need to complete, this comprehensive program aims to support 4,000 Black and Hispanic students over five years by providing professional mentoring, financial assistance for tuition and eligible living expenses like childcare and transportation.

"I have decided to pursue a career in I.T., because I have learned within the years that I am naturally good with computers, and it is not only in high demand but there is opportunity for growth. Most importantly the biggest advantage of choosing information technology for a career is that it has a very low cost of education as compared to many other career choices.

It is no secret that men makeup most of the workforce in I.T. related industries. Women are underrepresented in this field and are not encouraged to carry out their talent. Pursuing the career in Network Administration will position me as a role model for women and girls who are interested in advancing their career in this oft-male dominated industry."

"I know I want to be involved with information technology. Digital Communications is another major I am interested in. Communication is vital to well-being. Technology is also becoming essential to everyday life. I believe by combining these two fields I can help make a difference in this world. By using the digital world as a platform, I can effectively communicate the necessary information to the masses. Another field I was potentially looking into was Cyber Security. The threats are ever-growing and as are the people/everyday heroes needed to stop them.

I am the second person in my family to go to college. My mother being the first. I also have two beautiful children to be an positive role model to. I am without a doubt going to graduate college. Receiving your scholarship can really help me to continue believing in myself."
