Recently, a delegation from the Alamo Colleges District traveled to Washington, D.C. To meet with members of Congress and discuss the Alamo Colleges’ federal legislative agenda.

Trustees Roberto Zárate, Dr. Gene Sprague, Joe Jesse Sanchez, Dr. Yvonne Katz and Clint Kingsbery were joined by Student Trustee Monica Scraper, former Student Trustee Alicia Moreno, Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores, Board Liaison Sandra Mora and Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and Community Engagement Kristi Wyatt. The delegation met with U.S. Representatives Joaquin Castro, Lloyd Doggett, Will Hurd and Chip Roy, as well as Claire Sanderson, the educational legislative assistant for Senator John Cornyn. The group also attended the opening general session and took advantage of several additional opportunities to network with other community college representatives and legislators.

The delegation focused on key priorities of the district’s federal legislative agenda, including Pell grants, programs and services for veterans and the DREAM Act and immigration policy, as well as simplifying the FAFSA process to allow more students to participate in federal student aid programs.
