At a special ceremony recently, Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) recognized the Alamo Colleges District for its distinctive achievement of being the only community college system in the nation to be honored with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest recognition of organizational excellence.

“It is my honor to award this plaque of congratulations and the U.S. flag which has flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. to the Alamo Colleges District in recognition of this great achievement,” said Cornyn. “I congratulate the district, its board and Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores on doing such a great job of serving students and setting a high standard for other higher education institutions to emulate,” he added.

Cornyn presented the plaque and flag to Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees Chair Marcelo Casillas and Trustees Dr. Yvonne Katz and Roberto Zárate, who expressed their thanks and appreciation to Senator Cornyn.

“It is very meaningful for Senator Cornyn to take the time to honor us in this way,” said Casillas. “ We are very proud of our Baldrige achievement, and it is deeply gratifying to have it recognized by our state senator,” he added.

At the Alamo Colleges District, high quality education and affordable costs provide exceptional value to students and alumni who are major contributors to the economy and culture of our community.
