Alamo Colleges Kicks Off Employees Giving Back Campaign

Employee Giving Back Campaign 2019

The Alamo Colleges District kicked off its annual employee giving campaign at the district convocation on August 19.  Dr. Veronica Garcia, president of Northeast Lakeview College and this year’s district campaign chair, appealed to faculty, staff, and administrators to consider giving up a coffee or dining out once a pay period to make a life-changing gift.

This year’s theme is “Alamo Heroes and She-roes: EmPOWERing our Student and Community.”  The campaign runs from August 19 through October 4 and is coordinated with the Alamo Colleges Foundation and United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.  Employees may designate a gift to support AlamoPROMISE, their favorite scholarship fund, or a student advocacy and resource center at any of the colleges.  In addition, through United Way, employees may choose to support a local social service agency of their choice.

Last year, 42% of all Alamo Colleges District employees gave a total of $214,000. Roughly two-thirds of that amount supported Alamo Colleges Foundation scholarships and programs, with the rest benefitting various United Way agencies.  For 2019, the goal is to become a “majority giving” organization and raise the participation to 51% district-wide.

For the first time ever, the Alamo Colleges Foundation is now a community partner agency with United Way.  In May, the Student Advocacy Center at San Antonio College was awarded a five-year grant by the organization to establish a new “one-stop” helpline, connecting current students at any of the five Alamo Colleges to emergency utility assistance and social service agencies.  This means that anyone giving at their employer through a United Way workplace campaign can now support the student helpline initiative.

Employees who wish to pledge may visit to find out more information and submit their pledge via payroll deduction or credit card.  Cash and check donations may be made by getting in touch with their college contact person.  Paper pledge forms are also available.
