Three Alamo Colleges District Colleges Rated Among Top Online Community College Programs

Three of the colleges of the Alamo Colleges District—Palo Alto College (PAC), San Antonio College(SAC) and St. Philip’s College (SPC)—have been recognized as having some of the top online community college programs in the nation according to BestColleges.com, a leading source of information on higher education preparation and college planning resources. PAC is listed at number seven, with SPC at number 22 and SAC at number 36.

The ranking by BestColleges.com, updated annually, lists accredited, not-for-profit two-year colleges that offer affordable and quality online degree programs. PAC has moved up 13 positions from 2018, cracking the top 10 for the first time. PAC also is the only community college in Texas on the list ranked in the top 20 for 2019. SAC has improved by five rankings this year and is now among the top 40 community colleges in 2019, along with SPC.

PAC offers six web-based associate degrees and more than 20 certificate programs than can be completed fully online. SAC offers more than 200 college credit online courses that meet core curriculum requirements for an online associate of arts degree and an associate of applied science degree. All three colleges offer college credit online courses that meet core curriculum requirements for an online associate of arts degree and an associate of applied science degree. SPC offers five online certificate programs and 11 occupational skills award programs.

BestColleges.com bases the methodology of their rankings in statistical data available from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and College Navigator. In addition, it also takes into account a college’s academic quality, affordability, and online competency. To be considered for ranking, each school must be an accredited public or private nonprofit institution and must offer at least six online associate degree programs.

The Alamo Colleges District also offers Alamo Online, an educational, web-based program that can help a variety of students, including those who have never attended a college or university, students with some college credit but no degree, students returning to the Alamo Colleges District who have not been enrolled in more than a year, and students looking to start their college career with the goal of transferring to a four-year college or university.
