Alamo Colleges District Honored With Outstanding HACU-Member Institution Award

The Alamo Colleges District has been recognized by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) with the 2019 Outstanding HACU-Member Institution Award.
This national award recognizes and honors the extraordinary efforts and success of an institution that has excelled in advancing the mission and goals of HACU. Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees Vice Chair Joe Alderete, Jr., Assistant Secretary Joe Jesse Sanchez, Roberto Zarate, Student Trustee Alejandra Gomez and Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores accepted the award on behalf of the district at HACU’s 33rd Annual Conference Power Lunch on Sunday, October 6 in Chicago.
“We are honored and grateful to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Alamo Colleges District, including our board of trustees, faculty, administrators, staff and students,” said Flores. “This very special recognition acknowledges the Alamo Colleges District’s commitment to providing access to all residents of our Hispanic-majority community and offering all of our students excellence in education with provides them with the social and economic mobility they need to ensure a better life for themselves and their families,” he added.
The Alamo Colleges have been part of HACU for more than 30 years and a preeminent exemplar of the qualities recognized by the award: actively participating in HACU's student programs, where dozens of students have received HACU scholarships and internships; students and staff consistently attend conferences and events hosted by HACU; and embodying HACU's mission of improving access to and the quality of postsecondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students. As chancellor, Dr. Flores serves on HACU's Governing Board and has participated in numerous conferences, panels and meetings.
