Alamo Colleges District Hosts Second Sharing Days Event

November 1, 2019

Room of Sharing Days Event Guests

Over the last six months, the Alamo Colleges District has opened its doors to external organizations to share its journey to becoming the only community college system to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award through Sharing Days events held at the DSO.

Individuals from organizations across the country and as far as New Zealand joined us to learn our key practices in addressing the six Baldrige process categories: Leadership, Strategy, Customers (Students), Knowledge Management, Workforce (Employees), and Operations.

At each event, the district shared how it has visionary and committed leadership, an integrated strategic planning process (Strategic Plan and Strategy Map), a holistic framework and models for listening and engaging students (MyMAP, AlamoADVISE, and AlamoINSTITUTES), and award winning processes for employee development and engagement (ALAS, 4DX and SMART Goals). All of these are made possible by data-driven decision-making and allocation of resources. Attendees were also provided an opportunity to tour our Student Advocacy Center at San Antonio College and Veteran Outreach Services at St. Philip’s College, to further learn how we are working to address food insecurity and poverty, and providing additional support to our diverse student populations at all of our colleges.

Attendees joined us from industry, K-12 and other community colleges and universities. We had an international delegation of individuals join us from the New Zealand Polytechnic Institute and New Zealand Performance to learn from us as well as share the performance excellence work happening in their country.

The other organizations represented were:

  • St. Louis Community College
  • Ivy Tech
  • Northern Virginia Community College
  • Logan University
  • El Paso ISD
  • Oklahoma City Indian Clinic
  • Methodist Healthcare Ministries
  • Greenville Technical College
  • Rio Salado College
