ACD stands with our Asian, Asian-American & Pacific Islander Communities
March 22, 2021
The Alamo Colleges stands in solidarity with our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities after the horrific murders in Atlanta that claimed the lives of eight people, including six Asian women, and the anti-Asian hate speech and vandalism at the Noodle Tree restaurant in northwest San Antonio. These appalling acts are examples of the rise of pandemic-era hate crimes against Asians, Asian-Americans, and Pacific Islanders in Texas and across the country, but they are only the most recent in a long history of social and institutional racism against the Asian community.
The Alamo Colleges District condemns these acts and harassment, violence, and hate in every form. It is also committed to active anti-racism and to providing a safe, respectful, diverse, and equitable learning and working environment for the Alamo Colleges District family and the greater San Antonio community. We value our Asian, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. We are outraged. We mourn with you, and we are here to support you.
We are encouraging our employees and students to callout and report acts of hate and support those who experience it. If students experience or witness harassment, hate speech, or other unacceptable behavior, they should contact campus police at 210-485-0099. They also may report harassment, hate speech, hate crimes or related incidents to any faculty or staff member to receive help. If they are experiencing the impacts of racism or hate, our advocacy centers at each of our five colleges offer mental health counseling and support.
