We hope that you'll take advantage of our services. After all, that's why we're here.
UPDATE (8/10/2020) - NLC Library’s participation in the TexShare borrowing program has been suspended temporarily during the Library’s closure, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For assistance with your research needs, please contact the NLC Virtual Reference Desk at email@example.com or (210) 486-5388. You can also chat with us during open hours. Visit the home page and click on the green chat box button located in the lower left-hand corner of the page.
NLC students and employees in good standing with the NLC Library may obtain a TexShare Borrower's Card at the Circulation Desk. Cards are good for the semester in which they are issued and allow the cardholder to borrow materials directly from other participating TexShare libraries. Each TexShare library establishes its own lending rules and there are guidelines for obtaining a card. Borrowers are responsible for returning materials to the owning library.
NLC Library has two public black and white photocopiers. Copies cost .10 per page and can be paid with cash or change. The photocopier does make double-sided or color copies. Color copies are available at the campus UPS store.
Printing costs .10 per one-sided page and .16 per double-sided page. Students/library patrons will first need to establish a GoPrint account for themselves which can be done on any library workstation. A dialog box will appear once a print job is sent to the printers. Library staff has no access to print accounts so we suggest using your ACES username and a password that you will remember. Funds can be added to your account using debit/credit cards or cash. Please see signs posted near all workstations or ask library staff.
We ask that all users be aware of U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17 of the U.S. Code) and that they are responsible for any liability for infringing activity.
|UPDATE (8/10/2020) - For current students registered for Fall 2020 courses who need a laptop or hotspot to participate in their online classes, please contact the NLC IT department to see if you qualify for their Student Equiment Checkout program.|
Because our workstations are a heavily used resource, this policy is to ensure that they are readily available for use when you need them. The Library's Internet and Workstation Accessible Use Policy is based on the district's acceptable use policy. Priority use of our workstations is for course-related research/coursework and personal research. Users that are not actively engaged in research for their NLC, NVC, PAC, SAC, or SPC courses or related coursework may be asked to relinquish their workstations at heavy use times. The NLC Library staff reserves the right to make judgment calls on the appropriate use of its workstations. Children under the age of 16 may not use the library's workstations unless a parent or guardian is directly supervising usage. Students enrolled in the Judson Early College Academy are considered to be NLC students. Laptops and I-pads can be loaned for in-library use to currently enrolled NLC and Alamo Colleges students and NLC and Alamo Colleges employees who are in good standing with the library. Verification of current employment and current enrollment will be necessary. Devices must remain inside the 3M Security Gates and are not allowed to circulate outside the Library's hours of operation.
To minimize unnecessary use of district computing resources, gaming and downloading of music files is prohibited. Changing workstation settings, including software loads and presets, is prohibited. We ask that our users be courteous to others while using the library and its resources and that users abide by copyright law and licensing agreements. You may check out a pair of headphones at the circulation desk if you require listening to sound files on Library workstations.
Users may access the college's wireless server using their district login. In addition to accessing the Internet, the Library's workstations also provide access to Microsoft Office Suite software.
Group study rooms are available to NLC students working on group projects or as a study group. Rooms are available on a first-come, first served basis. An individual student may use a group study room but if a group needs the room, the individual will be asked to vacate. Students may check out a whiteboard marker and eraser at the Circulation Desk and wireless connectivity is available in all study rooms. Like the rest of the library, we ask that food and drinks be enjoyed outside of the library and that noise is kept to a reasonable level.
|UPDATE (8/10/2020) - For students needing to use the college WiFi, visit this MAP which shows the locations for the best WiFi coverage.|
Wireless access is available throughout the library and the NLC campus. Students, staff, and faculty can take advantage of the NLC's free wireless access on their wireless-ready equipment. To read more about the District's wireless access, visit the NLC WiFi page.
