1. Early Readers: Adventures in Reading

  • Tuition $20
  • Minimum enrollment 10
  • Time: 8:30 am – 9:30 am
  • Ages 6 – 8
  • Equipment required: laptop, chrome book, or a desktop computer, internet access, reading book of choice

Allowing children to choose their reading material inspires ownership and interests. A different book should be chosen for each day based on the weekly theme. This will result in reading four books total to strengthen reading skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence. You may register for one week or multiple sessions. The last day to register May 27. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

2. Intermediate Readers: Reading For Fun

Class is designed to foster reading comprehension, vocabulary, and expand interest. Each week consists of 4 days and provides a place where children can take ownership of what they read, while also hearing about other stories that they might not have selected themselves. You may register for one week or multiple sessions. The last day to register May 27. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

3. Advanced Readers: Welcome to Hogwarts!

  • Tuition $20
  • Minimum enrollment 10
  • Time:12:00pm – 1:30pm
  • Ages 12 +
  • Equipment required: laptop, chrome book, or a desktop computer, internet access, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Start your magical journey into the world of potions, magical creatures, and a timeless battle between good and evil as Class is designed as a launch pad to read the original, award-winning books by J.K. Rowling. Note: due to the length of the novel, the class may not finish before the end of the sessions. You may register for one week or multiple sessions. The last day to register May 27. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

4. Google Apps

  • Tuition $65

  • Time: 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
  • Ages 8 +
  • Equipment required: laptop, chrome book, or a desktop computer, internet access

Students will get a chance to see and practice using free-to-use apps like Google Docs, Slides, Gmail, Sheets, and more. Basic skills will be taught and tested with end-of-class assignments and projects with the goal of teaching your student to use a variety of Google applications. The last day to register May 27. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

NOTE: Publishing to app stores is not included. The 3-hour daily sessions consist of 1.5 hours class instruction + 1.5 hours self-paced project development, with personal assistance as needed.

Computer that was manufactured after 2013 (note; if using a tablet we recommend adding an external keyboard). 5. HTML Coding

  • Tuition $65

  • Time: 9:00 am - 12:00pm

See how much fun webpage coding is and what happens in the world of web design and development!. Each student will have access to additional video tutorials to review and practice what is done during the online learning time. Students will not be professional but will have fun and learn. The last day to register May 27. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

NOTE: Professional Web Developers take years to hone their craft. Please have realistic project expectations.

Required Technical Equipment:
Note pad for PC: already installed no installation needed; Text Wrangler for MAC: needs to be installed; Web cam w/mic or computer with integrated camera and mic on computer; Steady internet connection.

6. 3-D Design in Arduino

  • Tuition $65

They will get hands on experience with the design process as they create their project. Students will be able to choose 1 of the following to create: a dance project, an artist project, a Frozen project, or a Sprite Lab project. The last day to register May 27. 8. Photography 101 (online - Zoom)

  • Tuition: $65
  • Time: 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
  • Ages 8 - 12

photographyStudents will use photography to tell their own stories, explore the world around them, and develop deep connections with others. They will learn some of the basics about taking and editing photos. Students will create a photobook or a photo storybook by the end of the week.

1. Digital Painting

paintingStudents will learn the basics of digital painting using GIMP. Students will have access to video tutorials to review and practice and will conduct projects that can be realistic completed during the week. See how much fun digital painting is without the mess! 2. Imaging and Photo Editing

  • Ages 13 +

Each student will have access to video tutorials to review and practice and complete realistic projects during the week. See how much fun photo editing is and what happens in the world of graphic design and media! The last day to register is June 4, 2021. 3. Coding with Robots

  • Tuition $65

  • Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

robotIn this instructor-led self-paced learning program students learn the concepts of code development. These coding skills will be used to create commands, variables, conditional logic, loops, and Blockly to control online robots. Students will be able to navigate the movements of their virtual robot and see it respond to their commands. The last day to register is June 4, 2021. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

4. Intermediate Coding (online - Zoom)

  • Tuition $65
  • Minimum enrollment 10
  • Time: 8:30 am – 11:30 am
  • Grades 3-5
  • Equipment required: laptop, chrome book, or a desktop computer, internet access.

codingStudents will learn more advanced coding using Code.org through plugged (digital) lessons, nested loops and functions. They will gain experience with the design process and problem solving strategies while creating projects in Artist and Sprite Lab. The last day to register is June 4, 2021. Zoom login information will be sent via email on day of first class. If class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified on Friday prior to class and refunded within 3-5 days.

5. Web Design (online - Zoom)

  • Tuition $65
  • Time: 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
  • Ages 12 +
  • Equipment required: laptop, chrome book, or a desktop computer, internet access.

webStudents will learn to build websites and the business of web design, as well as, understanding the purposes websites serve the users and the creators. HTML will also be introduced. Due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic and changes in campus operations at Northwest Vista College, prices are very low this year. Parents/participants should plan on higher prices next year. Thank you for your understanding.
