Sample Student Notification Email from Faculty

Dear students,

Due to the emergency closure of the college facilities, we must begin to teach and learn remotely. We will meet remotely as a class at the regularly scheduled time and day using a video conferencing tool called Zoom. You will receive a Zoom calendar invitation through email or an interactive web link in your Canvas Inbox and/or in an announcement, or assignment pages.

You will join each meeting using the link provided with either a laptop, desktop PC, or mobile device with the downloaded app.

Canvas will be the primary means of communication from now on. I will use the announcements and inbox features to share information about coursework. Please watch for a message in Canvas regarding coursework during the closure.

If you are new to remote learning or if you have questions about Zoom or Canvas, you are strongly encouraged to take the one hour training called Remote Ready Boot Camp: Student. Beginning Wednesday, March 17, students will be able to access the Remote Ready Boot Camp for Students. You can find it in your Canvas course list.

If access to a laptop, desktop or other personal device is unavailable, students are encouraged to use their phone and email to communicate with instructors. In addition, programs are available to bridge the digital divide by providing low-cost internet service offers, which include free internet for 60 days. Find out more at alamo.edu/covid-19. Each of our five colleges has designated areas in their parking lots with free WI-FI. Follow the on-campus directional signage to the location.

Thanks for your flexibility and resilience during this temporary disruption.

Sincerely,
Professor XYZ
