Palo Alto College's Access, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee presents “Systemic Racism in Higher Education.” In this session, we will operationalize systemic racism and examine how it impacts students, faculty, and staff. Using conceptual tools such as intersectionality and tempered radicalism, we will strategize how our community can engage in conversations across difference and resist structural racism in our daily practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the definition of systemic racism.
  • Participants will understand the concept of Intersectionality as articulated by Crenshaw.
  • Participants will learn strategies to engage in conversations around race with others that reinforce and support their own well-being.
  • Participants will define terms colonialism, neo-colonialism, and tempered radicalism
