World Languages
What is the World Languages program?
We focus on enabling students to communicate in oral and written form in six languages. All learning takes place within a context that heightens students’ awareness, understanding and appreciation of foreign cultures. Our faculty possess extensive experience teaching languages, with specialized degrees from prestigious universities.
Courses numbered 1411, 1412, 2311, and 2312 transfer to most 4-year universities, fulfilling foreign-language requirements.
What will I learn? Our teaching methodology utilizes guidelines from ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages), which help you develop speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills at a college level. You will learn the grammar and vocabulary for communicating up to an intermediate level. Authentic materials highlight key aspects of the target-language culture. What can I do with language study? If you know a second language, you have marketable skills that employers want! More job opportunities will open up, and you’ll be a more competitive candidate. This knowledge is a valuable asset in medicine, health care, education, translation, interpreting, Foreign Service, diplomacy, government, criminal justice/law, business, tourism, IT, and many others. |
