What is the Diesel Technology program?

The Diesel Technology program at St. Philip's College is designed to provide individuals with the necessary skill set to pursue a career in today's highly technical and competitive field of diesel technology. There is a large demand for Diesel Technicians in many areas such as Construction, Transportation, Agriculture Oil and Gas, Mining, and Environmental fields, just to name a few.

What can I do with this course of study?

Students who pursue a certificate or degree in Diesel Technology will have the required skills for an entry-level technician job position with local companies such as Caterpillar, RDO Equipment Co, Rush Truck Enterprise and many more. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, median wages (2022) are $26.61 hourly, $55,350 annual with a projected growth (2018-2028) by an average of 14%. Projected job openings (2018-2028) 2,370.

All course material and Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) are approved by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

What's special about the program?

The program is both classroom instruction and lab projects. Courses in the program include Heavy Duty Brake Systems, Diesel Engine, and Engine performance, Preventive Maintenance, Basic Hydraulics, Electrical, and more advanced diesel technology courses. Practical work experience is accomplished through a Practicum. All course material and Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) are approved by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).
