Our Mission

St. Philip's College, a Historically Black College and Hispanic Serving Institution founded in 1898, is a comprehensive public college offering degrees and certificates, whose mission is to empower our diverse student population through educational achievement and career readiness.

Our Core Competencies

The college fulfills its mission through three core competencies:

Quality Instruction for Educational Programs
  1. Foundational courses in arts and sciences leading to an associate degree or transfer to attend senior institutions.
  2. Developmental courses that improve the basic skills of students whose academic foundations require strengthening.
  3. Applied Science and technical programs leading to a bachelor degree, associate degree or certificate designed to prepare students for employment and/or to update crucial skills for success in business, industry and government.
  4. Continuing education programs for occupational and educational enrichment or certification.
  5. High School Program partnerships to align transfer pathways, enhance learning opportunities and provide career readiness and transfer opportunities.
Student Engagement
  1. Counseling and guidance designed to assist students in achieving their educational and professional goals.
  2. Educational support services including library services, tutoring, open use computer labs and writing center.
  3. Services and appropriate accommodations for special populations, to include adult literacy and distance education.
  4. Empower students with institutional initiatives and service opportunities that aim to create a sense of belonging with the College and community at large.
Community Engagement
  1. Quality social, cultural, and intellectual enrichment experiences for the community.
  2. Committed campus that leverages our rich historical connection with San Antonio to build pathways for success and engagement for community members.

OBJECTIVE

Provide academic and student support and align labor market-based pathways to achieve student completion.

GOALS 2024 – 2027

  1. Identify, assess and improve academic and workforce programs to promote student completion.

  2. Identify, assess and improve student support services to promote student completion.

  3. Increase performance (retention, engagement, graduation, transfer and job placement) of all students through development and improvement of our student resources and advocacy supports.

  4. Strengthen outreach, onboarding, and support services to eliminate barriers and accelerate students’ progress toward their academic and career goals.

  5. Maximize program offerings, course availability and requirements while balancing the needs of students, faculty, and market demands.

Provide opportunities for St. Philip’s College students and employees to develop as leaders.

OBJECTIVE

Continuously improve our employee, financial, technological, physical and other capacities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

GOALS 2024 – 2027

  1. Deploy quality management approaches to include the Baldrige Framework and accreditation standards, building operational research capacity and a culture of assessment to ensure organizational sustainability and alignment with the SPC Mission, Vision and Values.

  2. Ensure sound financial management with emphasis on cost containment to ensure availability of resources.

  3. Improve operational infrastructure by expanding capacity in employee, financial, technological, physical and other resources.
