Radiography Technologist
What is the Radiography Technologist program?
This Associate of Applied Science Degree program affords the student the opportunity to rotate through different areas of Radiography Technology.
What will I learn?Students will experience clinical training in area hospitals and imaging centers. Upon successful completion of the Radiography Technology Program, the graduate may sit for the national certification examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Passing this exam will allow the graduate to use the initials R.T.(R) ARRT following their name. The Radiography Technology graduate is required to seek a state license with the Texas Medical Board in order to practice in the state of Texas. Licensure:
Upon successful completion of the Radiography Technology Program, the graduate may sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination. Program Information:
Program Mission
The mission of the Radiography Technology Program is to prepare the student to become a competent entry-level member of the healthcare team. The student will be provided with a comprehensive curriculum that addresses evolving technical skills, communication, and critical thinking. The Radiography Technology Program participates in the fulfillment of the mission of the Healthcare Sciences and Early Childhood Department.
Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes
Goals:
- Students will perform as competent entry level technologist.
- Students will be able to communicate effectively in the health care setting.
- Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills.
Outcomes:
Goal 1
- Students will demonstrate proper positioning techniques.
- Students will practice radiation protection measures in a clinical and laboratory setting.
Goal 2
- Students will explain common radiographic procedures verbally.
- Students will verify correct exam and patient identification (double ID checks).
Goal 3
- Students will modify imaging procedures based on a patient’s condition.
- Students will demonstrate critical thinking based on patient care scenarios and patient pathology case studies.
Students desiring to specialize in the Radiography Technology Program must meet all previous admission requirements for acceptance to St. Philip's College and be able to meet the technical standards required for the profession.
In addition, criteria for applying to the Radiography Technology Program includes the following:
- Must show eligibility of enrollment for ENGL 1301 and MATH 1314.
- Required Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
- Successful completion of at least three (3) academic curriculum courses allow the student to be eligible to apply to the program. Suggested courses from which you may choose include:
- ENGL 1301
- MATH 1314
- BIOL 2404
- PSYC 2301 or SOCI 1301
- Completion of one course from the Humanities (40) core
Application Process:
Applications for admission to the Radiography Technology Program are accepted from October 15th to March 1st each year. Applications must be postmarked by March 1st. No applications will be accepted after the March 1st postmark.
Students desiring to specialize in the Radiography Technology Program must meet all previous admission requirements for acceptance to St. Philip's College.
Students must submit the Radiography Technology Program Checklist and the Radiography Technology Program Application process, including submission of the following:
- Health Sciences Application Checklist
- Radiography Technology Program Application Form
- Autobiographical Statement including why you are interested in the Radiography Program as well as your short and long term goals.
- Official copies of all college transcripts (to include St. Philip's College, if applicable).
- Submit College Entrance Exam Score (If the applicant has not successfully completed 12 or more college hours). Please see a college advisor for more information about the college entrance exam.
Application Deadlines:
Computed Tomography (CT) open and closed dates for submission: June 1 - August 1 of every year
Magnetic Resonance Technology (MRI) open and closed dates for submission: September 1 - November 1 of every year
Selection Process:

Students may also earn additional applicant points by submitting documentation of any of the following items with the application packet.
- Certifications or Credentials in a health-related field
- Current CPR certification
- Associates Degree
- Bachelors Degree
- Masters Degree
