SPC Faculty Recognized by AMPEI

St. Philip’s College Faculty members Dr. Tom Manzo was recognized by the Asociacion Mexicana Para la Educacion Internacional (AMPEI) in Mexico and awarded a prestigious grant to attend their upcoming conference in Mexico City this September. This recognition highlights the exceptional quality of Dr. Manzo’s work and reinforces St. Philip’s College’s commitment to fostering global connections and intercultural learning.
“We are very proud of AMPEI’s recognition of Dr. Manzo and the amazing work he is doing with COIL. As our world becomes increasingly globalized and interdependent, Dr. Manzo’s courses provide our students with a great opportunity to enhance their global competencies by interacting with peers from other countries. I believe experiences like these not only make our students more knowledgeable, but competitive in their future careers,” said Dr. Michael Grillo, Interim Dean for the Division of Arts & Sciences.
The grant is acknowledgment of Dr. Manzo’s dedication to international education and his efforts in the realm of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). At the conference, he will present his COIL Project, which he developed in collaboration with Professor Enrique Cruz Pedraza, from Universidad LaSalle in Oaxaca, Mexico.
"I plan to continue to collaborate with AMPEI and colleagues in other countries to enhance the online international exchange of culture and student learning among different countries," Dr. Manzo said.
Dr. Manzo has also been selected to participate in another COIL project, titled "Expanding and Embedding COIL Virtual Exchange at Honduran Universities – A Regional Partnership Initiative with the U.S. – Stage Two." This project aims to expand the successful U.S.-Honduras COIL Pilot Project, supported by the U.S. Embassy in Honduras.
