St. Philip’s College Honored by Spurs during Black Heritage Night
San Antonio Spurs celebrated Black Heritage Night at the AT&T Center on Feb. 3 during the game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The pre-game showcase in the HEB Fan Zone included local talents: poets Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, and KENS 5’s Clarke Finney. SPC cheerleaders Marq Vaughn and Jasmine Amerson performed a dance routine.
During the first time out, Dr. Adena Williams Loston, President of St. Philip’s College; Dr. Lawrence Scott, Community Leader and Professor of Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University -- San Antonio; and David Robinson Jr., community leader and advocate were honored with team jerseys.
At halftime, the Spurs presented St. Philip’s College with a check for $10,000 to support its mission to educate and empower students of color. St. Philip’s College has the unique distinction of being the only public college in the nation designated as both a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
