2023 HBCU Scholar Named

Congratulations to St. Philip’s College student Jabrasia Doss for her selection to participate in the U.S. Department of Education, White House Initiative on Advancing Equity, Educational Excellence and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities, 2023 HBCU Scholar Recognition Program.

This program recognizes outstanding student leaders and further empowers them with tools for excellence. This year’s cohort is made up of 101 HBCU Scholars, the largest cohort in the history of the program. The theme for this year is Raising the Bar: Forging Excellence Through Innovation & Leadership.

“Students have the opportunity to work on a team project with representatives from NASA. Teams present their projects to all attendees at the Annual HBCU conference. They can participate in a Career and Recruitment Fair, meet students from other HBCUs, and return to their schools to share ideas for a better student experience,” said Dr. Angela McPherson Williams, St. Philip’s College Director of Student Life.

As a 2023 HBCU Scholar, Jabrasia will serve as a student ambassador for the Initiative and St. Philip’s College, ensuring information, resources, and opportunities are distributed to both campuses. She will also network with other scholars, federal agencies, and private partners to showcase her talent across the HBCU community.

Jabrasia was selected from a brilliant group of students and was chosen for her combination of academic achievements, campus leadership, civic engagement, and entrepreneurial spirit which distinguished her candidacy.

 “It’s an honor. I feel like St. Philip’s College gave me an opportunity I wouldn’t have received anywhere else. Being selected as an HBCU Scholar is a blessing, and I will put God first as I go forward. It’s shocking, but I’ve worked really hard,” said Jabrasia.
