St. Philip’s College welcomes Christopher Metsgar as the new Dean for Academic Success, Health Sciences.
Metsgar has a proven track record of building partnerships to support educational opportunities for students while collaborating with industry partners to meet workforce needs. His principle-centered leadership experiences in education, program management, accreditation, and classroom instruction provide great insight for him to lead programs.
As a first-generation community college graduate, he knows the value of higher education. He has an Associate of Arts Degree from Western Texas College (Snyder) and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services from South Plains College (Levelland, Texas). Metsgar also holds bachelors and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (Lubbock), and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business (Iowa City). Metsgar brings extensive knowledge in program accreditation and is presently serving as a site visitor on the national Committee for Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
Metsgar replaces Jessica Cooper, who left the position in January 2023. He has oversight of the college’s health science programs, including nursing, surgical technology and cardiac sonography. His purview also includes early childhood and family studies, and bio sciences. Thermajean Jones served as Interim Dean for Academic Success, Health Science.
