SPC Student Tours Napa Valley

It’s not every day that a student’s internship will take them to wineries in Napa Valley, but for St. Philip’s College student Marcus Clark, his California internship this past January will be one he will never forget.

Clark’s opportunity came about as a winner of the Fantesca Estate & Winery/DLynn Proctor Scholarship. He was able to travel to four separate California wineries with SPC’s Culinary Arts Director Patrick Brown as his chaperone.

The week-long trip led to a deeper knowledge of business philosophy for both student and chef instructor, as they had the opportunity to dine in several top-tier or Michelin rated restaurants and take note of formal practices in service and setting. During one of the tastings, they met with Houston Rocket’s Coach Stephen Silas.

Clark looks back fondly on his experience. It was a special moment for Clark to meet those who have helped to fund his education.
