Alumni Spotlight: Munji Nfor
June 10, 2024
"SPC has a special place in my heart. My dad works here. I've seen the positive effects it has on the community since I was a child," said former SPC student Munji Nfor.
Munji started studying at St. Philip’s College in the summer of 2020 as an online student while living in Austin. She emphasized the importance of time management and organization, explaining how she balanced different schedules and coursework by setting alarms and maintaining separate binders to stay on top of her online courses.
Her favorite class was Professor Hayford Awuku's Physics course. "Professor Awuku was very understanding of students’ needs. He always made himself available to help us and was very encouraging," she recalled. "He was kind, which made even a three-hour physics class enjoyable. Plus, he cracked a lot of jokes."
In the summer of 2022, she interned with the Marketing & Strategic Communications department. This experience allowed her to serve as the media contact for Legacy Day 2022. "I learned a lot about interpersonal communications and got to meet and work with the SPC staff," Munji said. Her research during the internship also focused on outreach, inviting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the nation to participate in SPC’s 125th anniversary.
“Munji’s internship was public-facing. She communicated with higher education, U.S. Army, and legislative partners to successful results,” said Adrian Jackson, director of marketing and strategic communications. “We’ve kept in touch and I’ve enjoyed looking into the future of public relations through her experiences.”
After attending SPC, Munji pursued her Bachelor’s in Public Relations from the University of Texas at Austin, which she completed in May 2023.
Munji will begin her Master's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Data Analytics at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, starting in August. The online program will allow her to expand her understanding of public relations from a data-driven perspective. "I love being a student and studying - school comes easily to me," she said.
