SPC Professors Granted Emeritus Status

St. Philip’s College (SPC) professors Dr. Hayford Awuku and Dr. Roger Biduaka were granted emeritus status at the Alamo Colleges District Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 21. Both faculty members have served St. Philip’s College for 28 years in the Natural Sciences department.
Dr. Awuku earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, and a Ph.D. in Physics from Baylor University in Waco. He held weekly physics tutoring sessions to help students better understand the material covered in class and to prepare them for the MCAT and PCAT exams for entrance into medical and pharmacy schools. Dr. Awuku also served on several college and district committees. He retired on July 31, 2021.
Dr. Biduaka earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Lubumbashi, Zaire, and a Master’s in Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He held weekly biology tutoring sessions at the Byrd Sanctuary (the Natural Sciences Tutoring Lab) and served on numerous college and district committees. He retired on December 31, 2021.
“It is great to see these two outstanding professors who have served SPC for nearly three decades receive this recognition as emeritus professors. Their contributions to SPC and its students have left an indelible imprint on the culture of the college and a legacy for serving students. It was a pleasure working with them,” said Interim Dean for Academic Success, Arts & Sciences Dr. Shane Kendell.
