What is a digital badge?
A digital badge is a digital credential indicating knowledge of acquired marketable skills. By participating in approved global learning programs and completing an assessment on Canvas, you have the opportunity to earn digital badges demonstrating global competencies.
What is the Alamo Global Learner Pathway?
The Alamo Global Learner Pathway is a tiered system made up of sub-competency, competency and skill badges. Students participating in global learning programs have the opportunity to earn a badge corresponding to the demonstrated skill. These badges are valuable assets in showcasing your abilities to future employers.
Through the Alamo Global Learner Pathway, you can earn three types of digital badges based on your involvement in global learning programs:
- Nine sub-competency badges – Each sub-competency badge is earned following the completion of a Canvas assessment
- Three competency badges – Each competency badge is automatically awarded following the completion of the three corresponding sub-competency badges
- One skill badge – The skill badge is automatically awarded after completing all three competency badges

How can I earn digital badges from the Alamo Global Learner Pathway?
- Participate in approved global learning programs focusing, including Study Abroad, Virtual Exchanges - AlamoCOIL, Global Learning Courses - GLOB, Global Engagement Network for International Education – GENIE, and The Alamo Global Challenge.
- Complete an assessment on Canvas. The Office of International Programs will invite you to join a Canvas course. Once you are enrolled in the course, submit the assessment for the digital badge you are eligible to earn.
- The required assessment per badge will be reviewed and approved. Once approved, you will receive the digital badge. Share your badge on social media and include it on your resume to showcase your skills to future employers.
