THINKING ABOUT IMPLEMENTING AN ECHS OR P-TECH?

The Alamo Colleges District and each of its Colleges are ready to support your decision to implement these progressive opportunities for your students.

As the demand to provide students with skills, training and more importantly, a head start on their college education, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) created Early College High Schools (ECHS) and Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH), designations to motivate school districts to enroll students into these programs, that ultimately yield both a high school diploma and up to 60 college hours or an Associate degree, including opportunities to earn industry certifications.

The Colleges of the Alamo Colleges District want to respond to the call and provide the educational services required to meet this demand, but in an intentional and deliberate manner. In order for our Colleges to ensure that all the staffing, required equipment, facilities and appropriate accreditation requirements are in place, we have implemented this Request for Partnerships (RFP) process to gather essential details from our service area partners to better understand the incoming requests for ECHS and P-TECH designations. 

This year the Alamo Colleges District are encouraging LEAs partners to look at pathways in the following areas:  Health Care, Information Technology, Education and Manufacturing, Priority partnerships will be given to those with a focus on these industries. For your convenience, we have provided you with Labor Market Trends to support your strategic planning as related to high demand/high wage industries and application process.

The Alamo Colleges District

The Alamo Colleges District is comprised of five colleges: St. Philip's (est. 1898), San Antonio (est. 1925), Palo Alto (est. 1983), Northwest Vista (est. 1995), and Northeast Lakeview (est. 2007). Our five colleges provide a vast array of courses and 2-year degrees. Our credits transfer to four-year universities for those pursuing advanced degrees. Our workforce development programs help individuals build new careers to meet the needs of our business community.

We are the largest provider of higher education in South Texas with over 100,000 students, comprised of 76% minority students. During the 2021 academic year, our five colleges awarded 10,685 degrees and certificates.

Our High School Programs

Each of the Colleges of the Alamo Colleges District maintains partnerships with our service area school districts, private/charter schools, and home schools. Today, over 13,500 students receive college credit that assists in advancing their college pathway via programs that offer dual credit courses.

We proudly serve 13 Early College High Schools, 2 P-TECHS, 3 CAST Schools, 8 T-STEM schools and 6 Alamo Area Academies. Over the last six years, 70,000 students have benefited from our High School Programs.

During the 2020-21 academic year, our portfolio of partnerships will expand by 12 additional campuses. Some campuses will be in their implementation stage and others in their planning stage.

San Antonio area families saved $26 million in tuition waivers during 2018.
