All first-year students are required to complete a Learning Frameworks course (EDUC 1300) designed to help them successfully transition to college. EDUC courses offer techniques in life-long learning, creative and critical thinking, time management, test and note-taking, studying, career planning, and building lasting relationships.

Entering students with fewer than fifteen (15) college semester credit hours are required to successfully complete an EDUC course during the first (1) semester of enrollment (dual credit hours are not counted as college credit hours for this purpose). Students who do not successfully complete the EDUC course during the first semester will be required to complete the course the following semester. 

Students on Financial Aid Suspension and Academic Dismissal may be required to complete a Student Development course (SDEV).

 

Learning Frameworks
(EDUC 1300)

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explore and identify theories of learning, cognition, and motivation as they apply to diverse environments. 
  • Research a variety of leadership models and theories and will compare and contrast the characteristics of effective leadership these models offer
  • Identify and apply effective learning strategies
  • Interpret and apply the results of assessments used to develop personal and academic goals

Foundations of College Learning
(SDEV 0370)

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Articulate an understanding that he/she is responsible for their own experience and success in college
  • Locate and apply specific college policies and regulations
  • Identify personal strengths and weaknesses, interests, and values
  • Apply guidelines for creating effective personal goals regarding issues which face college students such as degree plans, retention in college in order to reach specific goals and make informed choices
  • Develop effective study skills, college success strategies, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understand the process involved in making rational decisions for academic, personal, and career planning
  • Gain insight on the use of Student Support Services and the Learning Resource Center
