Fall semester student enrollment reached an all-time high this year, the Alamo Colleges District announced today. For the first time in Alamo Colleges District history, enrollment has exceeded the previous enrollment threshold with over 70,000 students, among other record-breaking enrollment numbers. Preliminary records indicate that overall enrollment is up in student headcount and contact hours.

High school enrollment, including those dually enrolled in both high school and at one of the five colleges in the Alamo Colleges District or via early college high school enrollment, is at over 14,000 students alone.

The Fall 2023 semester brings the highest-ever freshman enrollment across the colleges, with over 14,000 freshmen enrolled, and the AlamoPROMISE program broke its enrollment records with over 6,000 new first-year AlamoPROMISE Scholars.

In addition to exceeding new student enrollment records, continuing student enrollment increased by over 8% this year, compared to a 1% decrease last year.

“We are focusing on offering students affordable, convenient, and relevant academic programs and courses,” said Alamo Colleges District Chancellor, Dr. Mike Flores. “This year’s record-breaking enrollment numbers show that the access made possible through AlamoPROMISE and dual credit initiatives are providing students with the ability to invest in their futures without the expense of tuition as a barrier.”

Enrollment numbers at the Alamo Colleges District are bucking a national decline in community college enrollments. Alamo Colleges leaders are optimistic that they will continue to see an increase in enrollment in the coming years as Alamo Colleges District further invests in partnering across sectors to provide low-cost pathways to credentials in high-wage, high-demand fields, and support services to help students succeed.
