ACD Sets All-Time Record Enrollment For Fall 2024
August 26, 2024
Fall semester student enrollment reached an all-time high this year, the Alamo Colleges District announced today. Preliminary records indicate enrollment has exceeded the previous enrollment threshold with 77,191 students – a 13.7% over last year, among other record-breaking enrollment numbers.
With nearly 6,700 new AlamoPROMISE Scholars, the AlamoPROMISE program now offered Bexar County-wide, broke its enrollment records, contributing to the highest-ever first-time-in-college enrollment across the colleges for the fall semester, with 15,397 first-time-in-college students enrolled.
“This record-breaking milestone reflects our community's confidence in the transformative power of education and our shared commitment to our moonshot of partnering to end poverty through education and training,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “The success of AlamoPROMISE, along with our innovative partnerships, underscores our dedication to creating pathways that ensure every student can achieve their educational and career aspirations. Together, we are not only expanding opportunities but also working toward a future where education breaks the cycle of poverty and builds a stronger, more equitable community.”
Dual credit enrollment, including those students dually enrolled in high school and at one of the five colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, is at over 16,518 students alone – a 16.98% increase from last year’s numbers.
Six area districts are launching new programs with Alamo Colleges District campuses this year, including early college high school programs at Alamo Heights, North East ISD, Marble Falls ISD, and Fredericksburg ISD, and P-TECH programs at Alamo Heights, Boerne and South San Antonio ISDs.
These partnerships expanded from two in 2008 to a projected 55, with 27 districts and charter networks by 2026, demonstrating a continued commitment to expanding educational opportunities across the region.
In addition to exceeding new student enrollment records, continuing student enrollment increased by over 11.12% this year, with 37,097 students continuing their educational journey at one of the Alamo Colleges.
The record growth is in alignment with the recently approved 2024-2025 revenue budget, which projected record growth for the academic year. To support the growth, investments were made to increase faculty and signature student-focused strategies, including AlamoPROMISE, AlamoU, AlamoBOOKS+, advocacy centers, and sustained wraparound services.
