The Alamo Colleges District has been named a recipient of the 2024 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

In 2018, the Alamo Colleges District was the first community college system in the nation to be awarded the prestigious award, and the District is once again making history by receiving the award twice. The Alamo Colleges is one of five organizations in the United States – and the only education organization – to receive the award this year.

“Throughout the Alamo Colleges District, we are transforming lives through the Baldrige framework,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and vision of our Board, along with the efforts of our exceptional faculty and staff who have worked for years to achieve this milestone. We are grateful for this honor as we strive to achieve our moonshot. Our win is our community’s win.”

The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award was first established by the U.S. Congress in 1987 to raise awareness of quality management and recognize U.S. companies that have implemented successful quality management systems. It is the nation’s highest presidential honor for performance excellence.

The district’s commitment to exceptional performance is exemplified by the success of its programs. And in the pursuits and successes of its five member colleges Northeast Lakeview College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, St. Philip’s College, and San Antonio College.

The Baldrige Program promotes performance excellence among U.S. manufacturers, service companies, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and nonprofit organizations. It also conducts outreach programs and manages the annual Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which recognizes performance excellence and quality achievement.

The Alamo Colleges is one of the nation’s largest community college systems. Located in the heart of America’s fastest-growing city—also one of its most impoverished—the District remains focused on achieving its moonshot of ending poverty in the Greater San Antonio area through education and training.

With open enrollment, affordable tuition, transferable academic credits, workforce training, and more, the Alamo Colleges offer many pathways—from GEDs to associate degrees, certificates, and bachelor’s degrees—to meet students where they are and take them on the next step of their educational journey.
