Christopher Carr left college more than ten years ago to focus on his career in the information technology field. But he reached that point where the job just felt stagnant. Determined to overcome the feeling, Christopher returned to college to finish his credentials.

However, he wondered,

Could he accomplish the next-level success he desired, complete with leadership skills and employment security?

Although Christopher felt confident that earning a degree in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity from San Antonio College would make his plan to compete for better-paying jobs a reality, he needed something more.

Christopher wanted to expand his professional network. The strategic location of San Antonio College allowed him to participate in networking activities on campus. With AlamoONLINE, he met his class obligations online and spent his free time on campus fulfilling his extracurricular commitments.

As an online student, Christopher found he had the opportunity to join multiple student organizations, level up his education and experience with internships, and develop his leadership skills.

"I realized there are multiple groups at SAC that will help me and guide me. I started to meet directors in different places and opened up leadership and internship opportunities," he shared.

While he attended college, Christopher participated in internship opportunities that led him to expand the hands-on experience he needed in the information technology field.

This past summer, Christopher had the opportunity to intern with the Alamo Colleges Ambassador program, a collaborative effort with the City of San Antonio to keep future leaders in San Antonio.

During this internship, he worked at the San Antonio Public Library and performed data analyst work. His high-quality work landed him a full-time position.

"My internship got me the opportunity to get my foot in the door with the city," he shares.

The list of opportunities that Christopher accessed at San Antonio College continued to grow, including membership in the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), TRIO, SAC Men, and PTK (Phi Theta Kappa) organization which houses the top 10 percent of students in the nation.

An active member of NSLS, Christopher has participated in National Conferences. He recalls recently attending a conference in Miami, "I went from [just being] an online student to participate in conferences in San Antonio and outside Texas."

Christopher's plans include staying in San Antonio after graduation to put the skills earned at SAC to work. "I would love to stay here in San Antonio and stay around professionals and leaders that can help me and guide me on my path to being a cybersecurity professional."
