Palo Alto College Unveils 'Art PArC' Amphitheater: A New Cultural Hub for the Southside
July 11, 2024
Palo Alto College celebrates a momentous occasion as it unveils its latest campus enhancement: the Art PArC Amphitheater. This $916,000 outdoor theater project, born during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and funded through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), represents a triumph of creativity and community spirit. Originally conceived as a safe haven for students to gather and unwind, Art PArC has evolved into a transformative space dedicated to the Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts. |
As the first outdoor theater of its kind both on Palo Alto College's campus and the Southside of San Antonio, Art PArC promises to ignite creativity, foster community engagement, and enrich the educational experience for students.
Dr. Robert Garza, President of Palo Alto College shares, “ The Art PArC represents more than just an infrastructural addition; it symbolizes our commitment to providing holistic education. Here, amidst the beauty of our campus, students will not only learn but will express, create, and inspire. This space is a testament to our belief in the transformative power of the arts as well as learning opportunities outside of the traditional classroom setting.”
“I would like to congratulate Dr. Garza, the Palo Alto College family, and community members on this important milestone – a new creative space for the campus and the southside community,” said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores.
Dr. Rosalinda Ortiz, Chair of the Fine, Performing & Communication Arts Department, echoes the excitement and envisions Art PArC as a vibrant venue for a wide range of events. From diverse music and theater performances to compelling public speaking forums and captivating student dance exhibitions. These activities will not only entertain and engage, but also inspire meaningful dialogue on compassion, culture, and community.
Beyond its role as a cultural hub, Art PArC offers a dynamic space for relaxation and socialization on campus. Whether in need of a space to release some artistic expression or simply seeking a welcoming environment to connect with peers, Art PArC promises an open forum to enhance the PAC journey and prepare students for future success. Palo Alto College leadership and community stakeholders unveiled the Art PArC in an official ribbon cutting ceremony that featured a captivating inaugural performance by mariachi student Fabian Chavez. |
This event marks the beginning of a series of exciting happenings at Art PArC, a community hub where each performance, gathering, and shared moment enriches the vibrant tapestry of campus life.
