Academic and Student Support Services

Peer Mentoring:

The peer mentor program provides academic and student support services. Our Academic Peer Coaches are NASPA Certified Peer Mentors and CRLA Peer Mentor and Tutor certified and can provide assistance in one-on-one or group tutoring (supplemental instruction) and can assist with directing students to the correct student support services based on their needs.

Students are welcome to stop by the STEM Center to meet with an academic peer coach or request services and appointments through the STEM Center canvas course:

  • Tutoring - Tutoring in math and science is available via the STEM Center canvas course or Brainfuse by logging in to ACES.
  • Careers - Students can explore career options with the guidance of peer mentors, and get help to write a resume, fill out job applications, and prepare for interviews or presentations.
  • Internships - Peer mentors can assist students in locating an internship or job shadowing opportunity.
  • Scholarships - Students can get the help they need to apply for the Alamo Colleges Foundation Scholarship application or locating outside scholarships.

Faculty and Staff Resources

The STEM Center offers the following resources for faculty and staff:

  1. Classroom Presentations: These presentations are given by an Academic Peer Coach and covers the resources available in the STEM Center
  2. STEM Center Tours: Tours can be given to a class or individual employee. Although they are available on a walk-in basis, we ask that you submit your requests at least two days ahead of time to ensure our staff is prepared.
  3. Office hours space: Faculty members are encouraged to host office hour space in the STEM Center. This encourages students to visit the center and become more comfortable with seeking assistance when needed!
  4. Conference table reservations: We have two large conference tables available for group meetings with the ability to cast computers to our large monitors for presentations.

To reserve any of these resources, please submit a Faculty and Staff Service Request Form. A staff member will respond to your request by the end of the next business day to confirm availability.
