About the Program

The History Discipline at NVC provides opportunities for students to better understand history in a collaborative environment and prepares students for further study. History students think critically and creatively about the past and apply skills learned from historical knowledge to their educational and career goals. Our mission is to explore the past, examine our present, and take responsibility for our future.

What is special about this program?

The history courses offered at NVC are taught by a diverse group of expert historians. Our faculty are committed to providing students a direct and hands-on approach to learning history and succeeding at NVC, with primary materials and resources assigned for interaction and discussion. Each course is tailored by our faculty so every student has a voice, is included in course activities, and benefits from a range of teaching and learning methods utilized: from collaboration and teamwork in the analysis of assigned materials to creative and constructive application of knowledge accessed from assigned materials and individual research. Students drive our courses and faculty are energized by enthusiastic participation and contributions in-class meetings, in projects, and student progress in the program and coursework at NVC. The History Discipline at NVC offers its eight courses in a range of opportunities: face-to-face, online, 16-week, Flex, and summer; as well as a one-of-a-kind, grant-funded Study Stateside program!
