By visiting the Math Advocacy Center (MAC) in Juniper Hall, Room 308, you can ask for math advice, receive one-on-one tutoring, get additional resources from our handouts, or use our computers to work on your homework and study.

What services are available?
We offer many services, such as:
- One-on-one tutoring
- Computers for online homework and studying
- Advice about your optimal math course sequence
- Math-related registration overrides
- Counseling if you are considering dropping a course
- Assistance with registering for your math course
- Proctoring for completing an exam/quiz (under special circumstances)

About Our Services

A major purpose of the Math Advocacy Center (MAC) is for students to receive one-on-one tutoring for any developmental math course and any college algebra course offered at Northwest Vista College.
In these one-hour sessions, our goal is the help students understand the basic concepts of the topics needed for them to complete their assignments.
Typically, students are limited to ten (10) tutoring sessions for each math course they are taking that semester.
This service is freely available for Northwest Vista College students. Students can visit the lab in Juniper Hall, Room 308 to have one of our available tutors assist them.
While our tutors will do as much as possible to help the student succeed, the tutors will not complete an assignment for the student.

The Math Advocacy Center is the home base of the Advocate for the Mathematics Department. The Math Advocate’s role is to offer the following:
- to advise students who are wondering about the next course they should be taking
- to provide overrides for students interested in a special sequence of courses
- to counsel students who may consider dropping a course
To drop a course in any other discipline please contact that Academic Area/Department or Enrollment Services.

Under special circumstances, math instructors can make arrangements for you to complete an exam or quiz in the Math Advocacy Center.
You are expected to bring your Alamo Colleges District ID before you begin an exam or quiz. Alternative photo IDs (e.g. Driver's License, Military ID, or a government-issued ID) are also accepted.

This service is free for Northwest Vista and Alamo College students.
One-on-one tutoring sessions are primarily for the following math courses
- MATH 0410
- MATH 0320
- MATH 1314 (Both Stand-Alone and Corequisite)
- MATH 1324 (Both Stand-Alone and Corequisite)
- MATH 1332 (Both Stand-Alone and Corequisite)
- MATH 1342 (Both Stand-Alone and Corequisite)
- MATH 1414
We also can assist students in MATH 1350 and MATH 1351
For all other math courses, you can visit the Math Lab for Cooperative Learning, JH 316 for open lab tutoring
Our tutors can assist you with a variety of coursework. However, your tutor cannot help with quizzes or take-home exams.
You can have one session per day and up to 10 sessions per math course. If you need additional sessions after using the first 10 sessions, please speak with the Math Advocate.
A one-on-one tutoring session typically lasts for one hour.
