Why NVC?
Learning is fun on our beautiful 137-acre campus near SeaWorld® San Antonio. Whether in one of our state-of-the-art facilities or under the shade of an oak tree on the shore of Lago Vista, our award-winning faculty and staff pride themselves on providing you a rigorous teaching philosophy that emphasizes collaborative (or cooperative) learning and critical thinking.
Open Admissions
We have an open door admissions policy to ensure that every person has the opportunity to get a college education. There are no minimum admissions requirements (i.e. minimum entrance exam scores, minimum GPA or class ranking, etc.). The only requirement is completion of a high school diploma or GED. NVC admits students without regard to race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, age or color.
Small Classes & Inviting Atmosphere
Classes are small (typically around 25 students) offering you more individualized instruction and interaction with faculty than at larger colleges and universities. We pride ourselves on creating a culture and climate that is inviting and friendly. Make yourself at home and enjoy learning in an inviting atmosphere where students are on a first-name basis with faculty and staff. You will have numerous opportunities to get to know our talented faculty and staff outside the classroom via student organizations and activities. There are also many opportunities to develop your leadership and research skills through various, co-curricular student programs.
Affordable
The colleges of the Alamo Colleges District are among the most affordable options for higher education in the metropolitan San Antonio area. Take a look at our tuition and fee rates and see for yourself. Look where NVC ranks in a cost comparison of all Texas colleges and universities (College For All Texans).
Wide Variety of Programs
You can earn Associate Degrees, Certificates, or Marketable Skills Achievement Award tailored for specific career fields. Or you can complete a transfer plan and then transfer to a four-year university. To make transferring easy, we have partnered with surrounding colleges and universities to create easy-to-follow transfer plans and guides.
Transfer with Ease
Texas Law ensures that the core classes (commonly referred to as “the Basics”) taken at NVC will satisfy core curriculum coursework at all Texas public colleges and universities. To facilitate a fluid transfer we have partnered with surrounding colleges and universities to create transfer plans and guides that assist students in course selection by degree program.
Flexible Schedules
We have flexible course offerings throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Most courses are offered in a traditional 16-week format, but some may be offered in accelerated 12, 8, 6, or 3-week formats. Classes meet throughout the day; the earliest classes begin at 6:30 a.m., while the latest classes end at 10:30 p.m. We also offer weekend and internet classes to accommodate the busy lives of today's students.
Learning Communities
When you join a learning community you will enroll in two linked courses, which means you will have an opportunity to spend time with the same group of peers throughout the semester and develop a deeper understanding of course material. This also enables you to form new relationships and study groups with other students sharing your same experiences and coursework. Learning communities at NVC can take many forms. Visit the Learning Communities web page for more information. Be sure to register early; space is limited!
