About the Program

SMPTE Sustaining MemberThe Digital Video & Cinema Production program prepares students for careers in the growing film & video industry.  Graduates from the program go on to have jobs in the video industry such as:  production manager, producer/director, video editor, sound editor, compositor, camera operator, cinematographer, and screenwriter.  Students in the program use the same state-of-the-art equipment and software currently in use in the industry.  The training and class assignments have students shooting, editing, and producing their video and cinema projects within their first semester.

 

What will I learn?

Digital Video & Cinema Production program emphasizes the three major areas of the process: pre-production, production, & post-production. Courses are taught by industry professionals with many years of experience. Some have feature film experience as well as national commercial production.

What can I do with this course of study? 

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Video & Cinema Production is to provide collegiate lower division learning with specific hands-on skills required for entry-level jobs in various areas of video/film production or transfer to a university to pursue a Baccalaureate of Applied Sciences (BAAS) degree.” Occupational profiles indicate a 14-25% growth for Film/Video Editors and Producers/Directors by the year 2022 in the Alamo Region. Estimated average hourly wage ranges from *$19.25-22.87 in the Alamo Region. (Source: SOCRATES-Occupational Profiles-Alamo Region) *Note: Variations should be expected.

Do you have to be a computer whiz?

No, you just have to know how to use a "mouse" and have a passion for film/video. Yes, that's it!

What kind of equipment is used in the program?

We have some of the best video and true digital cinema equipment available including a Sony F3 (w/S-Log) and a RED EPIC, just to name a few.

Process to Enroll in a Digital Video & Cinema Production (DVCP) Internship

If you would like to register for FLMC 2280 (cooperative/internship), you cannot do it on your own. It requires the permission of the instructor or program coordinator to be registered. Here is a sample syllabus for the course; review the Course Requirements, so you’ll know what is expected of you during the internship.

First, you must be nearing the final semester of your program, depending on your track:

AAS requirements:

Be in Semester IV or V and completed/passed:

FLMC 2344 – Advanced Film and Video Editing
FLMC 2333 – Cinematography
FLMC 2434 – Directing for Film or Video

Certificate requirements:

Be in Semester III and/or completed and passed:

FLMC 1300 – Production Management
FLMC 2333 – Cinematography
FLMC 2344 – Advanced Film and Video Editing
