NLC Receives Gold Recognition from Texas Veterans Commission

September 2, 2022

Northeast Lakeview College has been awarded the Gold 2022 Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA). The Texas State Legislature established the VEERA program to recognize public colleges and universities for their excellence in providing education and related services to veterans and the military-connected community (Tex. Govt. Code § 434.252). Northeast Lakeview College applied for recognition and showcased its commitment to ensuring the academic success of these individuals for the Academic Year 2021-2022.

“This is an amazing accomplishment,” says Dr. Veronica Garcia, NLC president.  “As the newest of the Alamo Colleges, we (NLC), just began offering Veteran benefits a few years ago.  I credit the staff of our Veterans Center for continuing to enhance the services we provide for our Veteran students and their families.”

Northeast Lakeview College received the Silver Award in 2021.

Continuing to expand its services to student Veterans and their families, NLC will break ground in November on a new $7.7M Veterans Center building.  The funds are part of the State of Texas appropriations provided to the Alamo Colleges for 2022-2023  and the stand-alone facility will provide a “one-stop” location offering a convenient central place for our military-connected community to have direct access to academic and non-academic services.
