About Dania Rossi

Hello!

My name is Dr. Dania Rossi. Currently, this is my second year at Northeast Lakeview College as a biology assistant professor. I teach Anatomy and Physiology as well as Biology for the Science Majors. I am originally from the Republic of Panama and I moved to the United States when I was in elementary school.  My father was in the U.S. Air Force and retired here in San Antonio.  San Antonio is my hometown now and I enjoy many of the cultural events that happen here such as Fiesta and the rodeo.

In high school, I decided that I wanted to study science. I loved my chemistry and biology classes and that is what I studied at Our Lady of the Lake University. I had great professors and I enjoyed the small classroom sizes. During my college years, I learned about the field of pharmacology. I got accepted and earned a doctorate’s degree in pharmacology at UT Health Scienter of San Antonio, now known as UT Health San Antonio. My area of research was in the regulation of serotonin 1A receptors by antidepressants. Following graduation, I became a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Kansas studying the interaction between serotonin 1A receptors and estrogen receptors. Research is a challenging field and I am proud that I was part of it during my graduate school years and as a postdoctoral researcher.

After reflecting on my past experiences, I wanted to try teaching. I am grateful and continue to be grateful that I was given several opportunities including being an adjunct at the University of the Incarnate Word, Northwest Vista College, and Our Lady of the Lake University. Although it took me a while to get where I am, I hope I can help students navigate and succeed in their career of choice. I would not be here without supportive professors and I want to continue that tradition by being a mentor.
