Keera Ortiz is a Northeast Lakeview College graduate earning her Associate of Arts degree. Alongside her studies at NLC, Keera volunteers and fosters at the Humane Society of New Braunfels, where she provides care and shelter for abandoned or abused animals. She opens her home and heart to these animals while helping them find their forever home. Keera's dedication to excellence is further demonstrated through her participation in the National Technical Honor Society, which acknowledges her exceptional success in career and technical education. During high school, Keera was accepted into a career center, where she studied cosmetology and earned her cosmetology license, showcasing her diverse talents and commitment to personal and professional growth.

Keera is the child of a service member, which caused her to relocate many times throughout her childhood. During this time, she had the privilege of learning about many cultures and lifestyles. She says,  “This allowed me to understand that everyone’s version of success is unique and beautiful.”

Her future plans are to pursue a degree in criminology and criminal justice with a minor in business management. Having completed her associates degree in the fall, Keera is currently attending UTSA full-time. She is also considering law school with the ultimate goal of becoming a criminal defense and animal rights attorney. Keera aspires to leave a lasting, positive impact on her community as she moves forward in life.
