NLC Hosts Youth Summer Interns

Northeast Lakeview College has partnered with the Family Services Association for the 3rd summer in a row and is hosting 30 youth interns on its campus. The interns have been placed in 18 departments and will work 20 hours a week for six weeks, earning $7.25 hr. In addition to gaining valuable hands-on work experience, the interns also participate in weekly professional development workshops. The program is open to youth between the ages of 14-17 who live within city council districts 1-10. The program seeks to promote financial stability and literacy by requiring each intern to open a savings account and save at least 10 % of their savings.
As part of the program, Northeast Lakeview College also hosted over 100 FSA participants from Districts 1, 2, 9 & 10 during their professional development training , parent orientation night and Job Fair in mid June. SAC, SPC, and PAC are also participating in the program, but NLC is hosting the most interns.
Family Service Association of San Antonio Inc.’s Youth Education Department’s Youth College & Career Opportunities Program is an annual summer internship program that prepares and places over 300 youth in professional job settings each year. The program consists of two full days of professional development training, including a job interview where their skills and interests can be matched with a hosting organization and department. Participants will also visit a college/university or prominent business/organization in San Antonio.The program concludes on August 11 and a closing ceremony will be held on August 21.
