Bio:
My name is Dr. Shannon Sahabi and I am an Assistant Professor at Northwest Vista College. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin. I learned as a first-year teacher that I was definitely not finished learning, so I went back to school.
I received my Master of Arts in Multidisciplinary Sciences from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, then went on to obtain my M.S. in Geological Sciences from Mississippi State University. I concluded my education with a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction - Science Education from Texas Tech University upon defense of my dissertation - More than Global Mindedness: A Mixed Method Exploration of a US-Mexico Collaboration Project on American Secondary Students' Understanding of Global Food Supply and 21st Century Skills.
My interests in Science and Education include Plate Tectonics, Earth History, Academic Technology, Active Teacher Research, Assessment, Global Science Ed Collaborations, and Student Efficacy in the Science Classroom. Prior to NVC, I taught in Northside ISD for 21 years and have taught Earth and Space, Astronomy, AP Environmental Science, Environmental Systems, Chemistry, and Physics. I have two daughters, ages 19 and 10.
I enjoy getting outside when I can, binge watching shows with my best friends Netflix, Prime, and Disney+, and listening to music. When working, I usually listen to Synthwave and movie soundtracks, but I listen to a wide variety of music, especially classic rock. I love tennis and football, especially the Longhorns and Cowboys. I currently teach GEOL 1301, PHYS 1305, and ASTR 1304.
