April 25, 2023
Students to Show Off Their Speaking Skills
The Battle of the Speeches was back at Northwest Vista College. On Tuesday, April 25, students showed off their speaking skills and competed for $100 to $400 scholarships and prizes at 3:30 p.m. in room 212 in Desert Willow Welcome Center.
After a four-year pause because of the pandemic, the 2023 Battle of the Speeches has six student speakers competing for first, second, and third places, as well as faculty choice and people's choice awards.
“This oral speaking competition is one of few in the city that showcases excellence in platform public speaking. We are excited to bring back this event after four long years. This will be our fifth annual battle and it's back and better than ever,” said event co-coordinator and faculty instructor Tim Molina.
“The Return of Northwest Vista College's Battle of the Speeches will be a showdown that you don't want to miss,” Molina said.
The students, who are currently enrolled at NVC, submitted speech outlines, slides, and works cited pages for verbal citations embedded within their presentation. After auditioning in person, the students worked with the speech faculty to polish their presentations.
