June 2016 College Granted Candidacy Status
Northeast Lakeview College received official word from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) that the institution has been granted candidacy status. Northeast Lakeview College now enters the final phase of the accreditation process that requires a response to all the standards of accreditation and one final site visit scheduled for Spring 2017
May 2016 – Graduation Rates are at an All-Time High
Northeast Lakeview College continues to exceed its targeted number of graduates annually. Graduation rates are at an all-time high for the institution, demonstrating a 110% increase from 2015.
April 2016 Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color Visits NLC
Members from the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color visited the Northeast Lakeview College in Spring 2016 to conduct a site visit to evaluate the institution’s initiatives focused on male students of color. The Consortium is a joint research partnership between Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin, whose goals are to leverage the collective expertise of diverse educational institutions, to highlight best institutional practices and policies, and to become a national leader focused on improving male students of color educational outcomes. Northeast Lakeview College became of member of this Consortium in April 2015.
February 2016 Accreditation Journey Continues
Northeast Lakeview College participated in its Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) onsite candidacy visit February 23-24. The purpose of the visiting team is to verify the information in NLC’s application for candidacy and to ensure the institution satisfied each of the required standards. After reviewing NLC’s documentation, the institution’s application for candidacy status was moved forward for review. NLC’s official designation to Candidacy Status will occur at the June SACSCOC Board meeting once the findings from the onsite team have been reviewed.
July 2015 College Approved for Candidacy Site Visit
the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) that granted Northeast Lakeview College a candidacy site visit, a significant next step in the accreditation process for the institution. A candidacy site visit is just one step of many in the multi-tiered process towards full accreditation.
April 2015 NLC Joins Men of Color Consortium
NLC joins the Minority Male Community College Collaborative (M2C3) National Consortium on College Men of Color. Participation in the M2C3 Consortium will enhance NLC’s commitment to improving the success of historically underrepresented and underserved students, including men of color. The M2C3 Consortium facilitates an exchange of ideas between community colleges across the nation on how best to serve men of color in our educational institutions. Community colleges convene to share their efforts and learn about new strategies for enhancing the success of men of color. Launched in February 2015, the M2C3 has already seen much success in information-sharing between community colleges. An average of more than 1,000 consortium members participates in each webinar.
February 2015 JECA Students Are Ivy-League Bound
Four students in the Judson Early College Academy (JECA) received acceptance letters to multiple top-tier universities. These schools include Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT, George Washington, and others. Combined these four students received more than $3.5M in scholarships. To date, the 2015 JECA graduating class received upwards of $30M in scholarships to continue their education.
December 2014 College Forms President’s Advisory Council
The Friends of Nighthawks (FON) is a President’s Advisory Council established in December 2014 as a result of the Community Listening Sessions NLC hosted in Summer and Fall 2014. Its purpose is to create awareness of and advocate for Northeast Lakeview College and advance the mission of the college. Representatives include members from each of the college’s Metrocom cities in which the college serves as well as school district and university representatives.
November 2014 NLC Launches Adopt-a-School Pilot Program
NLC pilots its Adopt-a-School initiative by adopting three schools for the 2014-2015 academic year. The idea behind the initiative is to bring the college experience to all students along the educational pathway (from Pre-K to high school). The initiative will help develop an understanding of college and the importance of setting goals.
August 2014 Representative Cuellar Speaks at College Scholarship Ceremony
Congressman Cuellar (TX-28) delivered the keynote address at the August 2014 Scholarship Ceremony. He spoke on his own higher education experiences and congratulated the students for their achievements. NLC awarded almost $300K in scholarships to its students, which adds to the more than $1.5M awarded to students since Northeast Lakeview College was established in 2007.
January 2014 Early College High School Students Celebrate $3M in Scholarships
The second cohort of students from the Judson Early College Academy (JECA) will graduate with an associate in Spring 2014. They held a “Next Step” Ceremony as they get ready to transfer to a university. Of the 97 seniors in the JECA senior class, 81 have already been accepted to a university or universities. To date, 39 students have received scholarships totaling over $3M.
January 2014 NLC Employee Accepted into NAFSA Academy
Silvia L. Zecca, Assistant Professor of Spanish, was accepted into the NAFSA: Association for International Learners Academy for International Education (Class 11). The Academy is an introduction to international education and its major practice areas. It is an intensive, year-long training program that provides a unique opportunity to develop personal and professional capacities and prepares for leadership in the field of international education. She is the only Alamo Colleges employee accepted into the program this year.
August 2013 NLC Awards $500K in Scholarships
Northeast Lakeview College awarded more than $500K in scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year.
September 2013 College Receives Created Grant
Northeast Lakeview College is one of 473 institutions across the country awarded the Created Equal Grant funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The grant uses a set of four films that chronicle the history of the civil rights movement. Northeast Lakeview College offered a series of film screenings and community panel discussions centered around the four documentaries.
November 2013 NLC Student Presents Lecture at Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference
NLC student, Mr. Matthew Bachmann, presented a 15-minute mini-lecture on “Block Cyclic Distribution of Data in PBDR and Its Effects on Computational Efficiency.” Mr. Bachmann participated in the summer High Performing Computing (HPC) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC) in Summer 2013. Bachman is one of the MS2015 scholars who receive a grant-funded scholarship of $10K annually to attend NLC and major in math.
July 2012 Graduation Initiative Yields Impressive Results
Charged with increasing graduation rates, NLC hosted a series of graduation activities between October 2011 and April 2012. The goals were to create awareness of associate degrees at the Alamo Colleges District, provide an understanding for students of why an associate is important, and offer information on what a student can do with it. The project yielded a more than 143% increase in graduates from 2011 to 2012.
June 2012 Grant Helps Underserved Kids Attend Robotics Camp
Northeast Lakeview College received a portion of a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission that provided scholarships and a robotics experience for approximately 72 underserved children.
May 2012 SALE Dollars Provide Nutrition Scholarships
The San Antonio Livestock Exposition (SALE) approved $36,000 to be used for scholarships for nutrition students through the Project La Cena program at Northeast Lakeview College. Project La Cena was a three-year, grant-funded project designed to increase the number of students who major in Nutrition.
October 2011 NLC Boasts Largest Team at Alzheimer’s Walk
Northeast Lakeview College had the largest team at the 2011 Alzheimer’s Walk, with 228 participants made up of students, employees, and their family members. Additionally, NLC was the fourth largest fundraising team with $4,154.
