Dr. Tammy Perez, Dean for Academic Success
As Dean for Academic Success, Dr. Tammy Perez oversees the AlamoINSTITUTES of Creative and Communication Arts, Public Service, and Business and Entrepreneurship, including the Divisions of Business, Communication, Humanities, and Psychology (BCHP), English and Education, Fine and Performing Arts, and Social Sciences. Dr. Tammy Perez is also serving in an interim role that oversees Distance Learning, Dual Credit/ECHS, Library Services, the Instructional Innovation Center, and Academic Support Centers.
Perez has taught in higher education settings for 30 years at both two and four-year institutions in several states. Within the Alamo Colleges District, she began as an adjunct instructor for St. Philip's College in 1998. She went on to work full-time at San Antonio College in 2007 and while there, served in various roles: Department Chair, Faculty Senate Secretary and Vice President, Coordinator of International Studies, Coordinator of the Faculty-Student Mentoring Program, and accreditation liaison for SAC at NLC courses. In July 2017, she was hired as Chair of Business, Communication, Humanities and Psychology (BCHP) at Northeast Lakeview College, and in May 2018, took over as Interim Dean for Academic Success at NLC for a term of one year, at the end of which time she was hired as Dean.
Her many years of experience include working with curriculum, international issues, dual credit, strategic planning, enrollment management, conference planning, and faculty-student mentoring. Her relevant training and current certifications include the Quality Matters APPQMR Certification, Quality Texas Examiner's Training, Project Management Professional Training, and a Change Management Certification. In 2011, she participated in the Alamo Colleges Leadership Academy for Success (ALAS) where she was honored with an ALAS faculty award and peer award. She received the UT Austin NISOD Excellence award both from San Antonio College and from Northeast Lakeview College. The NLC Emerging Leaders awarded her with the Trusted Leader Award in 2019. She additionally received the Corazon Award from the District Faculty Development Team for her participation in faculty development presentations through the years. Perez holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Education from Purdue University, a Master's degree in Spanish from the University of New Mexico, and a second M.A. in Ibero-Romance Philology and Linguistics from UT Austin. She also holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Walden University.
