Library FAQ
Just bring your student ID to the Circulation Desk and we will gladly check out your items. You can get a free student ID by visiting Student Services at NLC. Any valid ALAMO ID will work at any of the ALAMO libraries. Some items have restricted circulation definitions. Staff can assist you determine which sources can circulate and for how long.
Students may have up to 15 items checked out at a time.
Most Course Reserve materials can can be checked out for 4 hours on-campus use with some available for a 3-day or 7-day off-campus check out.
Head for the Reference Desk. Reference Librarians are happy to assist you get started with your research project. If you need assistance with structuring your paper, you can also get help in the Academic Support Center on the 2nd floor of the library.
Virtual Reference is available during open Library hours. During open hours, you can contact us via chat, email, or phone: (210) 486-5388. To chat with us, click on the green chat box button located on the Library's website or on the LibGuides. Do you have a question while we are closed? Email it to nlc-reference@alamo.edu. We will respond by the next business day.
Student check-out periods are 21 days for books and media. Check-out periods are shorter near the end of a semester. The other ALAMO Libraries may have different circulation periods for their items.
Yes! You can do this yourself via the NLC Discovery Online Catalog. Click on the Sign In button at the top righthand corner of the page. Use your ACES login information. Your first name will appear at the top righthand corner of the screen. Click on the dropdown menu, choose My Account. Click the Renew button to the right of the title you would like to renew.
Materials checked out from the Library and not returned will be subject to a replacement cost for the item, a $10 processing fee, and a hold on your account until the item is returned or the replacement cost is paid. We would greatly appreciate the return of the item rather than charge you the cost of it. If this is not possible, please contact the Circulation Desk to find out more solutions.
Yes! Currently enrolled NLC students, faculty, and staff may request to have items from other ALAMO Libraries sent to NLC for them. Just check the ALAMO Library Online Catalog for holdings and availability, then fill out one of our Interlibrary Loan Request Forms for the type of material you are needing. These forms can be used for both lending requests from within Alamo Colleges as well as outside Alamo Colleges.
