NLC Connects Grade Schoolers to College

Northeast Lakeview College participated in two activities as part of its Pathways Project in an effort to increase college awareness. First and second-grade students from Miller’s Point Elementary in Judson ISD were visited by members of the NLC Student Success team. They learned about the benefits of college and engaged in a book read. Additionally, Phillip Hicks, College Director of High School Programs, visited Garner Middle School in Northeast ISD to speak with students in the College Club. His presentation focused on the difference between two and four year higher education institutions. Judson ISD and Northeast ISD are two sender school districts in NLC’s service area. Stemming from a similar Adopt-a-School initiative, NLC’s Pathways Program provides several college events annually to include mentors, college presentations, and campus tours.  The program is designed to make students aware of college as early as possible in an effort to make them more successful during their higher education careers.

NLC Provides Pathways Opportunity to Elementary Students

Students from Miller’s Point Elementary (Judson ISD) visited Northeast Lakeview College as part of the institution’s pathways project with local school districts. Forty students from leadership groups like student council, AVID, and the Kindness Club participated in a series of college workshops and took a tour of the NLC campus. NLC periodically hosts schools within in its feeder districts and continues to partner with many schools to increase awareness of a college-going culture and streamline the transition to college life. The event was organized and hosted by members of the Student Success Team.

Green Eggs & Ham Celebration

The Recruitment Office hosted the 3rd Annual Green Eggs and Ham Easter Egg Hunt on April 11. First graders from Camelot and Miller’s Point Elementary School participated in a series of activities, including the reading of Dr. Suess’ Green Eggs & Ham, college prep workshops, and taking graduation (complete with a cap and gown and diploma cover). The event concluded with an Easter Egg Hunt where students had the opportunity to win prizes.
