2018-2019 Adopt A School

NLC has adopted Candlewood

Elementary for the 2018-2019 school year.

As part of Northeast Lakeview College’s (NLC) growing Pathways Project initiative, NLC has adopted Candlewood Elementary for the 2018-2019 school year.  Throughout the year, NLC employees have participated in various activities with Candlewood students, including Career Day presentations, cultural activities such as Black History Month, and most recently, Valentine’s Day reading.  1st and 2nd graders were read various Valentine-themed books by Dr. Garcia, NLC President and Dr. Hamilton, NLC VPSS. NICO, NLC’s mascot, also attended and took pictures with the students and handed out goodie bags. Candlewood is in Judson ISD, one of NLC’s largest sender school districts.  NLC launched the Adopt-A-School Pathways Project in 2014 to increase awareness of a college-going culture in its service area and since then, has impacted hundreds of students.

Phillip Hicks and Holly Brown of Northeast Lakeview College The Leadership Team from Candlewood Elementary School met with Phillip Hicks and Holly Brown of Northeast Lakeview College to announce and solidify a 2018-2019 partnership.  Northeast Lakeview will provide college tours, student and staff mentors, and parenting support in an effort to increase student success and college readiness. The partnership will expand student exposure to collegiate expectations and provide rich real-world learning experiences!
