About Matt Brown

Where is your hometown? 

I was born on the coast of California but raised in San Antonio, Texas. 

What is your educational background? 

I started my high school education at Wagner High School and later transferred to, and graduated from, its rival school, Judson High School. I earned my BA in History from Texas State University. 

Why did you decide to pursue a career in higher education? 

My passion for helping others was sparked during my time in the Kids Against Drugs Program in San Marcos. Along with my fraternity brothers, I engaged in numerous activities outside of school to support local youth, including homework help, discussions about personal and educational growth, and organizing sports events. These efforts inspired me to continue assisting others after graduation. I initially worked as an Education/Career Coach in local high schools in San Antonio, helping students transition to post-secondary education and start their careers. My experiences during this period peaked my interest in higher education, ultimately leading me to become a Certified Advisor at Northeast Lakeview College, which is also my alma mater.
