Northeast Lakeview College Announces Finalists for Vice President of College Services

Open forums to be held July 8-10, 2024

Northeast Lakeview College has selected three finalists for the position of Vice President of College Services.  Each finalist will visit the college campus the week of July 8th and participate in various department meetings and a college tour. 

The finalists will also participate in an open forum.  The finalists’ names, their forum date, and more information about them can be found below:

Dr. Michael D. Garcia (Forum date is Monday, July 8th)
Veronica Stoller (Forum date is Tuesday, July 9th)
Dr. Thomas Walker (Forum date is Wednesday, July 10th)


All forums are open to students, employees, and the community and will be held at 2:45pm in the Comal Learning Resources Center (NLIB 211)

    Dr. Garcia currently serves as the Executive Director, Regulatory Affairs for the Austin Community College, Austin, Texas. He has served in this position since August 2018. Prior to serving in his current position, Dr. Garcia, served as the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for the 3M Company, Austin, Texas from 2000 to 2018.

    In his current position at Austin Community College, Dr. Garcia has district wide responsibilities for the environmental, health and safety management programs, the college emergency response and emergency management programs, the college risk management systems, as well as buildings and facilities operations and maintenance.

    Dr. Garcia has held a variety of positions on boards of directors, councils, coalitions and committees through which he has had the opportunity to serve others. He currently serves as President of the Williamson County Emergency Services District Number 9.

    Dr. Garcia is a registered professional engineer and a certified safety professional. He is from South Texas and is a first generation college graduate. Dr. Garcia previously lived and worked in San Antonio. He has extensive family ties and historical roots to San Antonio that date back to the founding of the city.

    Dr. Garcia earned his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of North Dakota, his Master of Science in Environmental Planning and Management from the Johns Hopkins University and his Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University - College Station, TX.

    He is married to Sonia Garcia a Primary School Teacher at Round Rock ISD and they have three children, Marina, Aryana and Michael Dean.

    Dr. Thomas Walker brings over 13 years of progressive experience in higher education leadership, specializing in strategic initiatives, teaching and learning optimization, and operational excellence. Currently serving as the Dean of Business Affairs at Broward College, Dr. Walker manages the operational aspects of a 103-acre campus in Broward County’s south region, catering to serving 12,000 students. His leadership plays a crucial role in creating an empowering environment for faculty to deliver transformative learning experiences and fostering a strong sense of belonging among students. Dr. Walker collaborates closely with college leadership to establish business goals, devise fiscal strategies, and oversee the implementation of compliance measures ensuring operational success that results in increases in student enrollment and financial solvency.

    Dr. Walker is known for his collaborative leadership style, which promotes high-performance teams to ensure the delivery of exemplary services to the college and surrounding community. His track record includes effective collaboration with cross-functional teams spanning academic affairs, student services, facilities management, information technology, and public safety. This collaboration has been crucial in maintaining campus facilities, advancing teaching and learning technologies, and ensuring adherence to institutional policies and regulations.

    Prior to his current role, Dr. Walker served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, where he provided strategic leadership for business programs. He spearheaded comprehensive student retention strategies, cultivated partnerships with community stakeholders, and championed innovative teaching technologies aligned with the college’s mission and vision.

    Dr. Walker earned his Bachelor of Science in Management degree and Master of Business Administration degrees from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Organization and Management from Capella University.

    Veronica is a visionary leader with over 20 years of combined experience, of which the last 15 years have been dedicated to transforming higher education institutions. Her expertise spans all organizational administration and operations areas, including financial and performance management, research administration, policy development, process improvement, compliance, audit and risk management, quality assurance, business analytics, and reporting.

    Veronica's tenure at a large public university system in Texas was marked by spearheading strategic initiatives in diverse areas of higher education, including leadership of a regional health-based center serving communities in South Texas. Her comprehensive understanding of operational excellence is evident in her successful management of significant financial budgets, accounting responsibilities, state and sponsored compliance programs, audits, and quality assurance. However, her commitment to public service has been the driving force behind her contributions to the advancement of higher education.

    Veronica is a transformational leader who fosters a collaborative culture. She effectively builds relationships with students, executive leaders, faculty, and all stakeholders to achieve the organization’s vision and goals. She holds herself to the highest integrity, professionalism, and performance standards. Her strategy incorporates improving efficiencies through strategic leadership approaches, stewardship of institutional resources, maximizing productivity by ensuring optimal workflow, and developing teams to achieve organizational success.

    Veronica holds a Master’s in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is on track to graduate with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership in December 2024. She is also a Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC).
